[EXCLUSIVE] Stephen G. Hill Talks Competition Between BET And Diddy’s REVOLT TV
For more than 30 years, Black Entertainment Television (BET) has been the leader of urban pop culture. Owned by Viacom, the network has had challenges, along with levels of success. Last year, REVOLT TV, which some compare to BET entered the cable space. Owned by Sean “Diddy” Combs and partnered with Comcast, the network is described as the first channel created entirely from the ground up in this new era of social media.
theJasmineBRAND.com correspondent, Imani, chatted with Stephen G. Hill, President of music programming, at BET Honors, asking him if he considers REVOLT competition for BET.
He shared that from his view point, there certainly is enough space for both. He says:
Oh we have had a lot of competition for a while, any other channel that’s on the dial is competition to us. Revolt is run by a good friend of the channel so I think there is enough space out there for everyone to have success and that everyone can win.
Both the network and Stephen seemed to be pleased with their popular music show, BET’s 106 & Park. In regards to the biggest challenge of maintaining the show he shares:
Its tough because now its 14 years old this year. But fortunately I think we have been able to keep up with youth culture and keep up with youth culture and still kind of be a reflection on what the youth are doing. I think Bow Wow and Keisha are fantastic hosts, they brought a new energy to the show so it’s still very exciting.
