Mekhi Phifer Files Bankruptcy, Owes Over $1Mill
Not so good news for Mekhi Phifer.
According to TMZ, the actor is joining a long list of famous folk who have filed for bankruptcy. Reportedly, the actor filed for full blown bankruptcy late last month, claiming roughly $67,000 in assets. Allegedly, his debt is totaling around $1.3 million. According to legal documents, monthly, he spends around $11,600, but makes only $7,500.
He owes $1.2 mil in back taxes, $50K in lawyers bills and $4,500 in back child support. He has a child with ex-wife, Malinda Williams.
In more pleasant news, Mekhi is set to begin filming the sequel to Divergent, Insurgent, later this month. He told I Am Rogue,
- I literally just got the new script so I’m actually in the middle of getting ready to start reading that now. I’m hoping so. It would be nice to see what makes Max tick, how he got to be Dauntless and even more so how he got to become the leader of the Dauntless. Which is a big deal in that world. Plus, I love the character. The character is awesome. I’m looking forward to having a good time with those guys and just getting in there and getting busy.
