Celebs Take On ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’: Oprah, Dwyane Wade, Kerry Washington, Kevin Hart, Gabrielle Union & More!
There’s a new challenge that’s invading social media. It involves ice, water and it’s perfectly safe — which we can appreciate — and it’s for a good cause. Called the Ice Bucket Challenge or the ALS Challenge, celebs are partaking in this frigid game for a worthy cause. After having a bucket of ice water poured on them, the person challenges someone else.
The latest craze has spilled over to a few athletes and celebs, who are donating money to the charity, The ALS Association. [ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. According to their web site, The ALS Association’s mission includes providing care services to assist people with ALS and their families through a network of chapters working in communities across the nation and a global research program focused on the discovery of treatments and eventually a cure for the disease. As of Saturday, August 16th, they had received over 10 million in donations.]
A few brave and wealthy celebs are participating in the challenge and donating to ALS — the rules vary, but if the named celeb doesn’t participate within 24 hours, he automatically is responsible for donating. We’ve caught a few athletes and celebs partaking including Oprah Winfrey, Chris Paul, Gabrielle Union, Dwyane Wade, Kerry Washington, NFL Hall of Famer Michael Strahan, DJ Irie, Carmelo Anthony, Caron Butler, Norris Cole, and Kevin Hart.
