Megyn Kelly Show Expected To Be Pulled Off Air Amidst Blackface Controversy, Dropped By Talent Agency
Megyn Kelly’s days on her the NBC show “Megyn Kelly Today” are reportedly numbered, and it’s not because of her blackface comments. New reports detail the host has been meeting with network executives to examine the topics she wants to cover in the upcoming season, but with the latest controversy surrounding the network and her name, sources say the host and network are working on an exit deal.
Kelly, who was previously a reporter on Fox News, is expected to be off air by December. While reports claim the reason for her removal is due to the “experiment not working,” there is no definitive reason as to why NBC would be pulling the plug. In addition to her recent comments made on Tuesday, it is allowing the network more reason to say goodbye. The host is also expected to not appear on her show Thursday or Friday.
During her a segment about the controversy surrounding Halloween costumes, Kelly and her panelists were having a civil discussion about a specific costume called blackface. Kelly made statements about how she didn’t see anything wrong with people dressing up in blackface costumes for Halloween, due to her own experience of people wearing them when she was growing up. The host received backlash for her sentiments from viewers and executives at NBC, including NBC News President, Andy Lack.
There is no other way to put this: I condemn those remarks; there is no place on our air or in this workplace for them.
The flak has become so severe that the cast and a few executive producers of the Netflix series “House of Cards” has canceled their appearance on her show, which was scheduled for Wednesday. She also has been dropped by her talent agency, Creative Artists Agency (CAA).
On Wednesday, the host apologized while on air for her statements.
I want to begin with two words, I’m sorry. The country feels so divided and I have no wish to add to that pain and offense. I believe this is a time for more understanding, more love, more sensitivity and honor..Thank you for listening and for helping me listen too.
Kelly has yet to release a public statement regarding the latest reports.
