Aretha Franklin’s Biopic ‘Respect’ Starring J.Hud Announces Release Date
On Wednesday, the official date for the upcoming biopic for legendary singer, Aretha Franklin was announced. As reported, the Queen of Soul’s pic, entitled ‘Respect,’ will be played by Academy Award winning singer, Jennifer Hudson.
The upcoming biography will be directed by Liesl Tommy, which will share the story of Franklin’s childhood starting in the church choir to becoming the undisputed Queen of soul music. MGM has set the date of release for August 14, 2020, which will be the singer’s two year mark of her untimely death.
As previously reported, Hudson spoke about her excitement in playing the role of the Queen of Soul.
“It’s always been my dream to play Aretha, and it’s actually happening. It blows my mind. I’ve always looked up to Aretha and to portray her—I cannot even speak about it because it’s like, ‘Oh, that’s a huge task.’
She continues,
“Think about it. It’s not just two, three decades of a career. This woman had a lifetime of a career. That’s like 70 years. I cannot even begin to imagine how long it’s going to take to cover.”
