Louis Vuitton Will No Longer Make Any Merch That Features Michael Jackson Elements-‘I Strictly Condemn Any Form of Child Abuse’
A creative at Louis Vuitton, Virgil Abloh, has condemned child abuse as sexual abuse allegations against Michael Jackson resurfaced in HBO’s Leaving Neverland documentary.
In the documentary, Oprah Winfrey sat down with two men who said Jackson sexually abused them when they were children.
It’s received mixed reactions so far, but Abloh made his thoughts clear in a statement.
“I am aware that in light of this documentary the show has caused emotional reactions. I strictly condemn any form of child abuse, violence or infringement against any human rights.”
Louis Vuitton’s chairman and CEO, Michael Burke, also spoke out in a statement.
“We find the allegations in the documentary deeply troubling and disturbing. Child safety and welfare is of utmost importance to Louis Vuitton. We are fully committed to advocating this cause.”
The company also said the documentary caused it the “greatest pain.” It added that it didn’t know about the project when it rolled out its Fall 2019 men’s collection, which was inspired by the singer’s style and music. Abloh added he was focused on the infamous style of Jackson and not the ins and outs of his private life.
“My intention for this show was to refer to Michael Jackson as a pop culture artist. It referred only to his public life that we all know and to his legacy that has influenced a whole generation of artists and designers.”
The brand said it will no longer make any merchandise “that directly features Michael Jackson elements” and guaranteed the items that will be sold in stores will “purely reflect the true values of the brand and of our artistic director.”
