Fat Joe Says “Latinos Are Black”
Lots of people aren’t feeling Fat Joe’s comments that all Latinos are Black and even sometimes identify with Black culture more than Blacks themselves.
During an interview earlier this week, he first suggested that Latino music has African roots.
“All the music is African. Brazilian music, Dominican music, Spanish drums, all the music is African music. So, you getting on the Afro-beat now. I been in Africa, they been doing that. So, it ain’t new. All the music is African. Even in Puerto Rico, when you go to the Caribbean.”
But his most controversial statement came when he added,
“Let’s speak about Latinos not being Black. Latinos are Black. In Cuba at one time there were 8 million Cubans, 5 million, unfortunately, were slaves. Three million were actual Cubans. And they integrated and had babies Same thing with Puerto Rico. When you go to Loisa and you talk about something ‘Yeah, that came from the motherland… Africa.’
“Sometimes Latinos might even identify themselves with African and Black culture more than Black people. This ain’t no crazy thing. Fat Joe ain’t on crack. He knows what he’s talking about.”
Check out what fans had to say about it.
