R. Kelly – New Charge Claims He Bribed Illinois Govt. Employee To Get 15-Year-Old Aaliyah A Fake ID Before Alleged Marriage
As R. Kelly’s trial for child pornography and obstruction of justice charges draw near, more is coming out about his alleged marriage to then 15-year-old singer Aaliyah when he was 27.
According to new reports, R. Kelly, now 52, has been charged for allegedly bribing an Illinois government worker in hopes of getting a fake ID for Aaliyah, who’s reportedly listed as Jane Doe #1 in court documents, back on Aug. 30, 1994. The details of the alleged bribe are unclear, but R. Kelly reportedly told someone to vow to give money to
“a public officer and public employee.”
He allegedly wanted the fake ID that claimed Aaliyah was 18-years-old, instead of her real age of 15, so that he could get a marriage license. The reported marriage license is dated for Aug. 31, 1994, just a day after the alleged bribe.
While their alleged marriage was later annulled just months later, it’s still not exactly clear why.
Either way, the new indictment comes amid racketeering charges that R. Kelly is facing in New York, where he allegedly exploited young women and tricked them into sexual acts. He’s also facing similar charges in Minnesota and Illinois.
Court documents also include marriage records for R. Kelly and Jane Doe #1 in Cook County plus an annulment in Wayne County, along with Aaliyah’s birth certificate.
R. Kelly’s lawyer Steven Greenberg said Thursday (Dec. 5) that the new indictment
“does not appear to materially alter the landscape.”
Another one of his lawyers, Douglas C. Anton, who’s on the legal team for the New York case told NBC News the bribery charge is
“an absolute absurdity, backed by more innuendo and baseless accusations.”
He added,
“To think that the Federal Government has nothing better to do then go back 25 years and address a ‘fake ID’ charge makes their whole case weaker.”
