‘Real Housewives of Potomac’ Star Candiace Dillard On Fight With Monique Samuels: My Mother Taught Me Home Training, I Was Attacked + Says Fight Will Air On Show

If you ask Candiace Dillard Bassett about her fight with “Real Housewives of Potomac” co-star Monique Samuels, she’ll say she was the one who got attacked.

Monique Samuels has been charged with second-degree assault, but both ladies have pressed charges against each other. Read about that here.

Earlier this week Candiace Dillard Bassett stopped by V103’s The Morning Culture and host Frank Ski asked her why she was fighting. Candiace Dillard Bassett responded,

“Am I? Am I fighting Frank Ski?”

She added,

“I actually cannot say too much about it because it has not aired and there is an ongoing legal investigation as we know if you’re keeping up with the news. But I will ask you this question. You have children, yes? So when your children were young and they wanted attention what would they do?”

Frank Ski answered,

“Act out.”

Dillard responded,

“Yes. That’s what I’ll say. Some people like to act out for attention.”

When asked if Dillard grabbed Monique Samuels’s hair, or if things happened the other way around, Dillard said,

“What do you think? If knowing what you know… You spoke on my resume. You spoke on who I am, who you think I am, who you see I am. What, Frank Ski, do you think?… My mother taught me home training. And I can say because that is a part of the investigation. I was attacked, I did not attack. I was attacked.”

Still, she insisted on keeping quiet about details of the incident, like what started it all.

“There’s a lot of misinformation being put out, again by people who like to act out. I’m doing my due diligence to wait for the footage… You will see everything from every angle. You will see everything.”

“I never in my wildest dreams, in 5 million trillion years, saw this taking place. We represent the elite of Black royalty. We are the people who represent that. Yes we fuss, we fight, we keep up drama. That’s what you all like to watch on TV, yes? So we do that. But this goes beyond all of that – my morals, my value system – it goes against everything for me.”

Her lawyer, James Walker, was also standing by and broke his silence. He said,

“You can’t assault someone. In America, we have laws called assault and battery… During the taping if you decide to reach across the table and grab Frank Ski, pull him across and slam him down, and the five people in this room gotta get me off of you, that’s assault and battery, and you can’t just do that. And that’s what we have here.”

When asked about Dillard’s having her own dramatic moments on the show, James walker continued,

“A lot of times these networks… you only see what they edit. You don’t see the full context of the character of Candiace Dillard-Bassett. You see what’s taken to the studio, edited, chopped up…”

He then added more details about the fight.

“They’re doing a taping, there’s an exchange, the other party, Ms. Samuels, just grabs her and pulls her down. I’ve confirmed this with the network, and they have it on tape. We’ve subpoenaed the tape, we’re waiting for the tape to get in, the prosecutors are waiting for the tape. I think Ms. Samuels has a serious problem on her hands. And I’m applauding – I understand she’s gotten treatment and she’s trying to deal with some issues. But you just can’t attack someone on a taping.”

“We have to decide if we want to sue her civilally. I’m surprised Ms. Samuels hasn’t issued an apology yet…”

Both Dillard and James Walker refused to speak on reports that Dillard’s husband, Chris Bassett, was recently in court for domestic violence charges. Bassett did deny that there was an incident between them.

“He would never put his hands on me. I don’t know who that was with, but that has nothing to do with our relationship.”
