Singer Michelle Williams Urges Fans To Seek Professional Help When Dealing With Trauma & Abuse
Former Destiny’s Child singer Michelle Williams(40) has made it know that she had struggled with depression through out her life and has become an advocate for mental health awareness in the Black community. On Saturday (April 11th), Michelle Williams took Twitter to give advice to her followers about dealing with abuse. She writes:
“It’s ok to process your truma/abuse with trusted professionals in the area of mental health! Counseling and Therapy is one of God’s gifts too!!”
A social media user responds to Michelle Williams’s tweet asking if was okay to trust church officials, such as reverends and bishops, with treating mental health. She replied absolutely not:
“Absolutely not!! If they don’t have training, certification in mental health counseling! Prayer is awesome but so is getting to the root of behaviors and responses to trauma and abuse”
Michelle speaks from experience. In fact, in July 2018 , she checked herself in to a Los Angeles mental health facility to treat her depression.
At the time, she released the following statement:
“For years I have dedicated myself to increasing awareness of mental health and empowering people to recognize when it’s time to seek help, support and guidance from those that love and care for your wellbeing. Today I proudly, happily and healthily stand here as someone who will continue to always lead by example as I tirelessly advocate for the betterment of those in need.”
