Babyface Recalls The Time Aretha Franklin Asked Him For Dating Advice: I Told Her Not To Trust Him

Grammy award-winning singer, songwriter, and producer, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, has been known for decades as one of R&B’s elite, having over 20 number 1 hits under his belt.

Kenneth Edmonds recently celebrated 25 years of the box office hit “Waiting To Exhale,” of which he wrote and produced the soundtrack.  He revealed many stories of the artists that he worked with on the project during the celebration.  When it came time for the song, “It Hurts Like Hell” sung by Aretha Franklin, donned “The Queen of Soul“, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds offered an interesting story with it.

Babyface explained,

“Five years ago I performed with Aretha … I sat in her [dressing] room and she told everyone to leave …then she said, ‘You be writing all these love songs and I want your advice.’”

Babyface continued,

“She said, ‘I’m seeing this gentleman and I’m gonna tell you some of the things he’s been doing. And I’m trying to decide if I want to date him or not.’ I said, ‘I wouldn’t trust this gentleman.’ About a month later I got a call and she said, ‘You were right, Face. He wasn’t the one.’?”

This wouldn’t be the first time someone has come to Babyface for requests in terms of relationships.  Also according to Babyface, the late iconic King of Pop, Michael Jackson, wanted his help with a shot at actress Halle Berry.

Michael Jackson, Halle Berry

During the livestream Verzuz battle against fellow super-producer, Teddy Riley, Babyface revealed a story about Michael Jackson, saying,

“Speaking of MJ, it reminds me of a…true story. Fun fact: one time Michael called me. Michael said, ‘Babyface!’ I said, ‘Yeah?’ He said, ‘Do you know who Halle Berry is? Do you know Halle Berry’ I said, ‘Yeah, I know Halle Berry.’ He said, ‘Could you do me a favor? I want you to call her, ’cause I wanna take her out on a date.’ I said, ‘What?’ He said, ‘Call her- I wanna take her out on a date.’”
