Halle Berry Wants To Represent Herself In Divorce W/ Ex Olivier Martinez

The divorce between Halle Berry and her ex-husband, Olivier Martinez, has yet to be finalized, but the actress wants to represent herself moving forward.

She filed a request to serve as her own counsel, rather than continuing with an attorney. Her previous attorney, Mariana Zakiyan Beck, approved the request on July 30, and Halle Berry signed it on Aug. 11.

Olivier Martinez is still being represented by famous divorce lawyer Laura Wasser.

It’s been nearly five years since both Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez first filed for the split in October 2015. They cited irreconcilable differences in their separate filings. They had been married for two years and have six-year-old son Maceo, who they want joint custody over.

They released a joint statement at the time of their filing and said:

“It is with a heavy heart that we have come to the decision to divorce. We move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus of what is best for our son. We wish each other nothing but happiness in life and we hope that you respect our and, most importantly, our children’s privacy as we go through this difficult period.”

Olivier Martinez is Halle Berry’s third husband as she was married to David Justice in 1993 and singer Eric Benét in 2001. She’s also mom to her daughter Nahla, 12, whose father is her ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubrey. 

As for her current love life, Halle Berry said earlier this year that she’s been single for three years. She told Lena Waithe in April:

“I knew I was gonna at least take…one full year. One year led to two years, and now two years is leading to three years! And I’m fine, because the next relationship I decide to get into, I think I will have a better chance at attracting and choosing what’s right for me, because I’ve taken this time to really think clearly about what’s important to me…and I know what’s right for me, so I know longer feel the need to rush or accept something that’s not totally right for me…I’m gonna wait for my match, or stay solo with my kids and do life how I’m doing it!”

She sparked rumors that she has another mystery man in her life after she shared a cryptic Instagram photo last month.
