Ramsey Orta, Man Who Filmed Eric Garner’s Fatal Detainment, Arrested
Ramsey Orta is in trouble with the authorities once again. You’ll recognize Ramsey Orta as being the man who filmed the unfortunate fatal arrest of Eric Garner in Staten Island, New York. His video of the incident where Eric Garner is pinned to the ground by police officers and can be heard saying “I can’t breathe” went viral and sparked outrage around the nation.
Ramsey Orta, however, has been arrested multiple times and in the early morning hours of September 23, he was pulled over for having his vehicle windows tinted too dark. Allegedly, the police officers on the scene located a handgun on him during the stop and subsequently took him into custody. Ramsey currently has charges pending against him but no specifics have been publicized as of yet. Apparently, Ramsey had just been released from prison in June after serving time for possession of a weapon.
Back in 2016 and about two years after the death of Eric Garner, Ramsey filed a $10 million lawsuit in Manhattan where he alleged he was being targeted by police after he was arrested on what he considered made-up drug charges. He claimed the arrest, as well as others, served as payback for his recording of the detainment of Eric Garner.
Do you believe that Ramsey Orta is being targeted by the police on this and past charges since the 2014 death of Eric Garner? Share your thoughts in the comments!
