Tyler Perry Suggests He’s Hiring New Writers & Directors
After receiving lots of criticism for not having a writer’s room for any of his shows, Tyler Perry might have had a change of heart.
He said during a recent interview that he looks forward to allowing “fresh, exciting talent” to lead the ranks in writing and directing his projects, giving him a chance to take a step back.
Michelle Sneed, the president of production and development for Tyler Perry Studios, also added:
“We’re super excited about the young, up-and-coming filmmakers and new writers that we’re working with. Tyler has solidified his place in the industry; his brand is amazing, and we’ll continue to grow that. Then on the other side, we’re working on promoting, providing a platform and advocating for this new talent, both in front of and behind the camera.”
Tyler Perry got lots of attention after he revealed he’s the only writer for his projects. He shared a video of scripts for a handful of shows and said:
“I don’t know if you know this, but all shows on television have a writers room. And most of the time there are 10 people, 12, whatever, that write on these television shows. Well, I have no writers room. Nobody writes any of my work. I write it all. Why am I tell you this? I wrote all of these scripts by myself in 2019. What’s my point? Work ethic!”
