Britney Spears ‘Afraid Of Her Father’ & Refuses To Perform As Judge Denies Request To Remove Him As Legal Guardian

Britney Spears has lost her latest court battle as she tries to get independence from her father.

Earlier this year, #FreeBritney trended on social media as fans expressed concerns about the 12-year conservatorship she’s been under.  Many felt as though the conservatorship, also known as legal guardianship, has been taking a toll on her.

The legal guardianship began in 2008 after Britney Spears went through very public mental health struggles and infamously shaved her head and smashed a photographer’s car with an umbrella. This arrangement put her estate, financial assets, and personal assets under the control of her father Jamie Spears and a lawyer. The agreement was extended to August 22 earlier this year.

The conservatorship has always been very controversial amongst many of her fans, as they believe the agreement is being used to manipulate and control the pop icon and her $59 million net worth.

Britney Spears recently applied to get the legal guardianship removed, but Los Angeles Superior Court judge Brenda Penny declined the request in a hearing on Tuesday (Nov. 10.). Britney Spears’ attorney Samuel D. Ingham III told the judge,

“My client has informed me that she is afraid of her father,  She will not perform again if her father is in charge of her career.”

Her father James Spears became Britney Spears’ sole conservator in 2019 after her attorney Andrew Wallet resigned from the position.  Britney Spears reportedly requested that her father be removed from the role earlier this year, but it was extended until February 2021.
