Meghan Markle Alludes To Royals Blocking Interview With Oprah Winfrey Ahead Of 2018 Wedding
As we get closer to Oprah Winfrey’s highly-anticipated sit-down with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, more is coming out about the former Suits star’s life in the U.K.
In a new teaser of the interview, set to air Sunday (March 7th), Oprah Winfrey reveals she attempted to conduct a sit down with Meghan Markle before she married into the royal family in May 2018.
Oprah Winfrey, who attended the lavish ceremony, said:
“So I just want to say that I called you either February or March 2018 before the wedding, asking would you please give me an interview, and you said I’m sorry, it’s not the right time, and finally we get to sit down and have this conversation.”
Meghan Markle replied,
“Well, I remember that conversation very well. I wasn’t even allowed to have this conversation with you personally, right? There had to be people from the… sitting there, everything was…”
Oprah added,
“There were other people in the room when I was having that conversation.”
Meghan confirmed Oprah’s suspicions before the media mogul continued and said,
“You turned me down nicely and said, perhaps there will be another time when there’s the right time. What is right about this time?”
Meghan explained,
“Well, so many things. Um, that we’re on the other side of a lot of – a lot of life experience that’s happened, and also that we have the ability to make our own choices in a way that I couldn’t have said yes to you then. That wasn’t my choice to make. So as an adult who lived a really independent life to then go into this construct that is different than I think what people imagine it to be, it’s really liberating to be able to have the right and the privilege in some ways to be able to say yes, I’m ready to talk.”
Meghan and Prince Harry exited their leadership roles in the royal family last year. Meghan said now, she doesn’t have to answer to anyone.
Things are getting interesting between Meghan and the royals as they’ve launched an investigation into claims that she bullied staffers. Meghan has denied the allegations. She also called out the royal family for playing a part in spreading lies about her in another teaser of her interview with Oprah. She said,
“I don’t know how [the palace] could expect that after all of this time, we would still just be silent if there is an active role that the Firm is playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us. And if that comes with risk of losing things, I mean I — there’s a lot that’s been lost already.”
