Rosie Perez Says She Hasn’t Been Invited To The Oscars Since Her Nomination In 1994: It Hurts
It’s been more than 25 years since actress Rosie Perez received an Oscar nod for her performance in Fearless. And she hasn’t been given an invite to the prestigious event since then.
Rosie Perez earned an Oscar nomination in 1994 after playing a plane crash survivor navigating through intense grief in the film.
She tells Variety she has yet to receive another invite.
“Not even to sit in the audience, not to present, nothing—and I’m a member. I love the Academy Awards. I cheer on my peers, but it hurts. It’s like when your home team doesn’t ask you to come back into the stadium after you got up to bat and hit the home run.”
She goes on to speak on being a Latina in Hollywood and says,
“The biggest struggle has been navigating through other people’s shortcomings. Other people’s bigotry, racism — and specifically the ones that don’t understand that they are bigots or racists.”
“but it’s too d*** slow.”
“I’m a full-figured woman and proud of it. In the past, I would have to ask, ‘Why can’t I get different pants that are going to fit my big f***ing a**?’”
