Pop Smoke’s Shooter Was Only 15-years-old, Admits To Murder During Secretly Recorded Interview In Jail
According to LAPD Detectives, Pop Smoke’s shooter was only 15-years-old. The Brooklyn rapper’s high-profile court case continues, with new details emerging about his tragic death. As previously reported, Pop Smoke, born Bashar Jackson, was fatally shot during a home invasion in Los Angeles on February 19, 2020. He was only 20 years old at the time of his death. The 15-year-old teen, who was the youngest of the four defendants is now facing murder and robbery charges in the case. He allegedly admitted his role in the murder during a recorded interview with a cellmate at a juvenile detention center last May. LAPD Detective Carlos Camacho testified Friday (May7) at a preliminary hearing for a different suspect, Corey Walker, 20, the sole adult defendant in the high-profile prosecution.
“He [15-year-old teen] admitted that he shot the victim three times with a Baretta 9 (mm.).”
The 15-year-old alleged shooter “admitted that they asked for the jewelry” and then had “a confrontation” with Pop Smoke during the home invasion.
Referring to the teens’ recorded jail interview, Detective Camacho said,
“They got into a fight, and he shot him three times. –He said he shot him on the back.”
All four defendants were members of the same street gang and learned of Pop Smoke’s whereabouts from his Instagram account. The oldest defendant, 20-year-old Corey Walker, also confessed to his role in the deadly incident in a separate secretly recorded interview in jail. Det. Camacho said Walker told an informant in his cell that he and three others used gloves, ski masks and a police scanner to avoid getting caught. Camacho testified,
“He [Walker] said that when the individuals got inside, the suspects confronted Pop Smoke, who was in the shower naked.”
According to Det. Camacho, it appeared at one point, Pop Smoke was complying with the demands of the intruders in handing over his jewelry, but the rapper fought back and “rushed” the intruders. He was then “pistol whipped” and eventually shot in the chest by the 15-year-old suspect. As previously reported, Walker has plearecded not guilty and appeared in court Thursday (May 6) for his preliminary hearing. According to the New York Daily News, LAPD detective Christian Carrasco was the first person to take the stand and provide key details into the case.

Det. Carrasco said that the intruders broke into the home through a window on the second floor when Pop Smoke was in the shower. He also shared that a woman, who was staying with the ‘Dior’ rapper at the time, and was held at gunpoint with a firearm to her head. The woman spoke with the police hours after Pop Smoke was shot. She was reportedly told by the intruders,
“Shut the f*ck up. Do you want to die?”
Det. Carrasco continued,
“She heard a struggle coming from the shower area and heard Mr. Jackson screaming. Mr. Jackson ran out of the bathroom and then she heard a loud pop and [heard] Mr. Jackson fall to the ground,”
He added that the witness told the police that Pop Smoke was then kicked.
“Two other individuals began to kick him,”
Walker is the only adult involved in the case after a judge determined the three other suspects were minors at the time of the incident. If convicted he could face the death penalty.
Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the family and loved ones of Pop Smoke during this difficult time.
