Jay-Z’s Cousin Facing Lawsuit For Allegedly Scamming $250,000 From Investor Over Roc Nation’s Video Game Platform
Jay-Z might have to bail his cousin out of some legal issues. According to reports, Briant Biggs, who is the cousin of Jay-Z, is being sued by the investor company Blueprint Capital Holdings over a breached contract. Biggs was part of a team that was aiming to raise a reported $1.5 million for the video platform Unanimous Games, which was said to be connected to Roc Nation. The president of Blueprint, Ryan Collision, said he trusted in Biggs’ business plan to “bridge the gap” between eSports and the entertainment industry through live events and mobile video games. Biggs’ business plan also promised big-named rappers of Roc Nation like Meek Mills, Yo Gotti, and Jay Park would participate in the gaming project.
According to the lawsuit, Collision claims he invested $250,000 in March of 2018 into Unanimous Games. He added that Unanimous Games agreed that if things didn’t go as planned the company would at least pay back the investment money plus interest by March 2021.
However, according to the filing, Unanimous Games has yet to do so. The lawsuit claims that in July of this year Biggs added onto his list of alleged lies by saying Unanimous Games had a $5 million investment on the way which would be used to pay back Blueprint’s money. According to the court filings, a few weeks later Biggs gave Blueprint financial records, however,
“Notably, Unanimous Games did not provide any tax returns, income statements, general ledgers, profit and loss statements, or any documents relating to the alleged $5,000,000.00 investment.”
Based upon the financials provided, Biggs did pay himself tens of thousands of dollars from Unanimous Games in 2019 and 2020, the lawsuit claims. In addition to that, the lawsuit alleges that despite what Biggs initially claimed, Unanimous Games did not reach an agreement with Roc Nation until months after his first meeting with Blueprint Capital Holdings. The suit also mentions that Roc Nation retains the rights to the rappers that would potentially appear on the video game platform.
Blueprint Capital Holdings is suing Biggs, Unanimous Games, and Roc Nation for fraud and breach of contract. The investor company is seeking an unspecified amount in damages.
