Chris Tucker, Who Starred As Smokey In ‘Friday’, Left Franchise Because He ‘Didn’t Want To Represent’ Stoners
Chris Tucker may have once starred as a pot-smoker, but he does not want to be associated with the product!
Friday fans may fondly remember Chris Tucker, who played Smokey in the beloved 1995 film. However, he was noticeably absent from the 2000 sequel, Next Friday. While many were unsure of why Chris Tucker chose to walk away from the franchise, the 50-year-old actor recently opened up about the decision! Regarding the matter, Tucker stated:
“One of the reasons why I didn’t do the second one [is] because of the weed. I said ‘Man that movie became phenomenal–I don’t want everybody smoking weed!’ I never really told people this because I kinda forgot about it, but it was one of the reasons why I didn’t do it.”
He continued:
“I didn’t want to represent everybody smoking weed. I kind of made it more personal than a movie… I wanted to move on because, when I did something, I never wanted to do it again. Back then, I was all about going to the next level. I had a good sense of like ‘Okay, now it’s time to go do an action movie.'”

This revelation comes a few months after Chris Tucker revealed he only made $10,000 off the film–though he was still glad to have been a part of it. He said:
“It’s one of those things–it was just a small movie. We filmed it in 20 days. I got about $10,000 for it or whatever, [but] I didn’t care. I wanted the opportunity. It was that small of a movie, but that was the beauty of it. It allowed me to get into character.”
The actor added:
“It wasn’t no big distractions like big movie sets. You got light people and sound people and everybody wanna be a star. But that movie was just a camera and me and Cube on the porch. Magic came out of it, thank God.”
