Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has proven throughout his career that he’s a man of many talents. Most recently he made his rap debut last October with Tech N9ne. Now he’s looking to fill the role of the legendary spy, James Bond.
According to reports, The Rock said,
“My grandfather [Peter Maivia] was a Bond villain in ‘You Only Live Twice.’ I would like to follow in his footsteps and be the next Bond. I don’t want to be a villain. Gotta be Bond.”
You Only Live Twice was a 1967 James Bond movie where The Rock’s grandfather had a minor role. The movie starred Sean Connery and Teru Shimada was the villain.
This comes after many actors have made headlines for speaking about the sought after James Bond role. Just last September, Idris Elba’s name was trending on Twitter when it was announced that the search for the next Bond will start in 2022.
However, last month at the premiere of his Netflix movie, The Harder They Fall, he said he wouldn’t be in the next Bond film.
“No, I’m not going to be James Bond.”
He was later asked if he would ever want the role and he said,
“Who wouldn’t? How amazing would it be to have a Black James Bond? It’s a sign of the times when we can stop talking about Black, white, and color.”
As previously reported, Bridgerton actor Regé-Jean Page was said to have been a lead contender for the coveted James Bond role.
However, actors Henry Cavill and George MacKay are both allegedly being looked at for the role. An insider stated:
“They are talking about Regé, but Bond producers are not making any decisions until after No Time to Die is released. They are focusing on Daniel Craig’s big finale. But Henry Cavill also is still in the running, he’s a lot more famous now than when his name first came up. One other name is George MacKay. One of the producers of 1917 has come over to Bond and is suggesting George. There is some talk about rebooting the Bond franchise after Daniel Craig with someone younger, and he could fit the bill.”
