Star Jones Lands Judge Gig On “Divorce Court”
Star Jones is returning to the small screen!
This fall, the 59-year-old attorney and TV personality, will judge Divorce Court.
She will replace Judge Faith Jenkins. The former The View host says,
“Before I was the legal correspondent for NBC News covering high-profile trials and conducting exclusive jailhouse interviews, I spent six years in a Brooklyn courtroom as a NYC homicide prosecutor and assistant district attorney,” Jones said in a statement. “Since the beginning of my TV career, it’s been my mission to serve as a voice for the voiceless; and after more than 30 consecutive years on television and in people’s homes, that remains true. As a fan of television’s longest-running court show, I was honored to be considered to take over the ‘Divorce Court’ TV bench, following in the footsteps of three incredible women, Judge Mablean Ephriam, Judge Lynn Toler, and Judge Faith Jenkins. I will offer the parties before Divorce Court, as well as viewers, a no-nonsense approach to the law and a decision driven by my proven legal expertise, compassion and empathy, personal experiences and hard-earned common sense.”
Divorce Court is a court show that revolves around settling the disputes of couples going through divorces. The current edition of Divorce Court premiered on September 13, 1999. As of August 24, 2020, the presiding judge is Faith Jenkins.
Each edition of Divorce Court has aired in syndication, and with a total of 38 seasons spread across its four incarnations as of the 2020–21 television year, it is one of the longest-running syndicated television programs of all time. Divorce Court holds the record for the longest-running court show of all time, leading the second-place show The People’s Court by two years.
Due to repetitious cancellations and casting changes to the judge’s seat, however, Divorce Court does not boast the longest individual series run or longest arbitrator in the court show genre; those records are held by Judge Judy.
