It’s rare for Nicki Minaj to speak on Lil’ Kim after everything that happened between them. But when the topic came up with Joe Budden, she didn’t shy away from it.

Sitting down for a conversation on The Joe Budden Podcast, Nicki Minaj, 39, spoke about Lil’ Kim’s influence on fashion and the world at large. She said:

The same way I feel I should have already been on the cover of American Vogue, so should have Lil’ Kim. If we being all the way 1000. If this is what your magazine represents… influence. Because when myself or Lil’ Kim goes on the Internet, every day we see our influence. We will see our influence. So I’m not gonna say it’s about me only and not give that woman her dues about what she did.

Lil’ Kim has not yet responded to her comments.

While Nicki Minaj has credited Kim, 47, as one of her own influences, their relationship has not been pretty. Tensions go back to the late 2000s when Nicki was a budding rap star. Nicki has said she always showed love to Kim when she was coming up, but Kim has countered that she did not pay homage properly and accused Nicki of biting her style. The two have traded plenty of barbs and diss tracks since then, from Nicki‘s song “Stupid Hoe” to Kim‘s Black Friday mixtape.

In recent years, however, things have calmed. Kim even said she’d be open to going against Nicki on Verzuz, the music competition series created by Swizz Beatz and Timbaland.

When asked about the possibility of appearing on the show, Nicki seemed open to it. She did not name any preferred opponents, but she did not rule out Kim either.

“I haven’t said anyone’s name,” she told Joe Budden, smiling.

“I’m not saying anybody’s name.”
