Ricky Martin Faces More ‘Wildly Offensive’ Sexual Assault Claims After Filing $20M Lawsuit Against Nephew For False Accusations
It looks like Ricky Martin is battling a new set of “wildly offensive” sexual assault claims, less than a week after he filed a $20 million lawsuit over previous accusations from his nephew.
According to reports, a new complaint was filed on Friday (Sept. 9) at a police precinct in San Juan, Puerto Rico. While the person’s name was not listed, the Associated Press reported that it was Ricky Martin’s nephew, Dennis Yadiel Sánchez, who made the new filing.
The Latin pop star filed his lawsuit against Sánchez, 21, on Wednesday, Sept. 7, claiming his nephew’s accusations of incest and sexual abuse were an attempt to “assassinate” the singer’s reputation. It now appears as though the nephew could be retaliating against Ricky Martin, 50.
Ricky Martin’s attorney, José Andréu-Fuentes, had this to say about Sánchez’s recent filing and accusations.
“These claims are wildly offensive and completely untethered from reality. When this man previously made similar allegations, his legal case had to be withdrawn — not least because he himself admitted under oath that Ricky Martin had never assaulted him in any way.”
He continued,
“Now, after being sued for trying to extort Mr. Martin, he is attempting to spread his lies again. It is beyond time that the media stops giving this deeply troubled individual the oxygen of publicity and allows him to get the help he so clearly needs.”
Martin’s lawsuit — which claims Sánchez’s allegations cost the singer at least $10 million worth of canceled contracts and projects, plus another $20 million in damages to his reputation —came after the 50-year-old pop star was hit with accusations that he was romantically involved with his nephew, and allegedly harassed the young man after their relationship ended.
As previously reported, in July, Ricky Martin’s 21-year-old nephew claimed he was a victim of domestic abuse and illegal incest at the hands of Martin and was granted a restraining order against the “Livin’ La Vida Loca” singer. However, Ricky Martin defeated his 21-year-old nephew in court when the latter retracted his accusations of engaging in a sexual relationship with the singer, whom he also accused of harassing him.
A judge also tossed out the domestic violence restraining order put in place to keep Ricky Martin away from his nephew.
While the case against Martin was dropped, that didn’t fully stop his nephew from continuing his wrath. The singer claimed one month after Sánchez withdrew the restraining order, that he bombarded him with messages via social media, and vowed to
“assassinate his reputation and integrity,”
if Ricky Martin didn’t give up hush money.
According to Martin, the messages were sent by a “maladjusted individual,” who also leaked the singer’s phone number on Instagram and created parody accounts for one of his kids.
Due to Sánchez’s allegations, Martin — who is currently filming the upcoming Apple TV+ series “Mrs. American Pie” — claims to have lost multimillion-dollar deals, and now seeks $20 million as compensation for the damages, in addition to leaving the singer feeling “unsafe” in Puerto Rico.
In July, Ricky Martin celebrated his win on Twitter with a statement from his attorneys. It read,
“Just as we had anticipated, the temporary protection order was not extended by the Court. The accuser confirmed to the court that his decision to dismiss the matter was his alone, without any outside influence or pressure, and the accuser confirmed he was satisfied with his legal representation in the matter.”
“The request came from the accuser asking to dismiss the case. This was never anything more than a troubled individual making false allegations with absolutely nothing to substantiate them. We are glad that our client saw justice done and can now move forward with his life and his career.”
Truth prevails.
