Kandi Burruss & Tiny Speak On ‘Xscape’s’ Upcoming Docu-Series W/ ‘SWV,’ Singers Share Both Groups Had To Put Their Egos Aside To Make The Project Work & It Was ‘A Lot Of Hell’
SWV and Xscape are coming together to release a reality series on BRAVO!
In a recent interview, famed girl group Xscape discussed their thoughts on their upcoming docu-series with the singing trio SWV. As you may already know, Xscape was formed back in 1991 by Kandi Burruss, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, LaTocha Scott, Tamera Coggins-Wynn, and Tamika Scott. After being asked to touch on the project and share that they can, reality star Kandi Burruss revealed a few things viewers can look forward to and what inspired the series. She said,
“We tried to do something different this time around. We wanted to have, like, you know, like with Versus I guess it inspired something for us to come together in a major way, to like be able to put our shows together and not just you know us performing on the same show, but actually merging the two performances together into one performance.”
She added,
“And then in doing so, we wanted to document it and that’s what you’re going to see. You’re going to see it come together.”
Tiny jokingly chimed in:
“A lot of hell.”
Tiny then reflected on egos being put aside to make the docu-series work.
“Yup. That’s why I’m saying it’s going to be a lot of hell, you know? You’ll get a chance to see all of that. I mean, you know, you got two powerful groups. Two groups that have been doing their thing and successfully we all deserve a certain amount of respect.”
The 47-year-old added:
“And so, everybody’s standing on that.”

As previously reported, the docu-series “XSCAPE/SWV” (working title) is executive produced by Mona Scott-Young and will follow the singing sensations as they are in the studio and on tour. The show is set to air this Fall.
Kandi and Tiny’s comments come after Kandi recently revealed that Carlos King stole the rights to Xscape’s life story. In a previous interview, she said,
“He is the one that stole my groups life story and sold it to TV One, and for that I just can’t get past it,”
She continued,
“I was talking to a friend and I was like….’We should do like a movie about our groups life’….and they was like ‘somebody’s already doing that’…and I was like ‘what you mean somebody’s already doing it?!’….They was like yea it’s a network….I took a meeting about directing it.”
She added,
“His other producing partner….called my mom and was like ‘oh yea we want to interview you because we trying to do a documentary about girl groups….my mom was gonna do it….but come to find out HE was the person who had did the deal with TV One to sell our life’s story, and was going to try to ask my mother questions about us unknowingly, to try to get more information I guess for the show.”
