A$AP Rocky Asks Judge For Additional Time Before He’s Due To Appear In Court For Alleged Shooting Incident Involving A$AP Relli
Rapper A$AP Rocky wants more time to prepare for his pending case for the alleged shooting of his former friend and A$AP Mob member.
According to a report by RadarOnline, A$AP Rocky’s legal team is requesting additional time before the “F**kin’ Problems” rapper appears in court. Born Rakim Mayers, the Harlem native told a judge he is too busy with his music career, touring, and his business ventures this month to be questioned about the alleged shooting his friend accused him of being responsible for ahead of his trial.
As previously reported, 34-year-old A$AP Rocky was charged in connection to a shooting that occurred on November 6, 2021, following an argument with an acquaintance in Hollywood. The alleged acquaintance is said to be Terell Ephron, a former A$AP Mob member who used to carry the moniker “A$AP Relli.” Rocky was sued by his ex-friend and faces two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm with allegations of personally using a firearm.
Reportedly, A$AP Relli said he was invited over to Rocky’s location where the argument took place and escalated, resulting in the rapper firing a handgun at his former friend, who sustained a minor injury. He said Rocky fired multiple shots at him and one struck him. A$AP Relli demanded unspecified damages for his medical bills along with punitive damages. The lawsuit states,
“As a result of being placed in fear of immediate grievous bodily harm, [Relli] suffered and continues to suffer physical, mental and emotional injuries.”
According to statements, talent manager Relli alleged Rocky inflicted injuries to his left hand following the shooting, and the entire incident was caught on home security by nearby surveillance cameras which led LAPD to arrest Rocky.
In the civil lawsuit, Rocky denied all allegations of wrongdoing. He pleaded not guilty on Wednesday (August 17) to two counts of assault with a firearm. Rocky was arrested and bonded out in April for the assault. Reports state that Rocky’s lawyer called the whole incident an extortion plot. His lawyer said,
“Rocky didn’t commit a crime. It was an extortion attempt by a former associate, who threatened to make false criminal accusations if Rocky didn’t pay him.”
Rocky also accused his ex-friend of bringing the lawsuit in hopes of extracting money from him following a
“physical altercation that [Relli] instigated and perpetrated against [Rocky] and several others.”
Rocky reportedly claims Relli and his legal team are being difficult to work with and refusing to work with them on his deposition date.
The rapper said he agreed to take the hot seat but he has a very busy schedule. His lawyer informed the court that Rocky is an
“award-winning international recording artist, recording executive, music producer” who in addition to “recording, touring and performing worldwide, [Rocky] oversees several other business ventures including collaborations with national and international brands.”
He said his
“various commitments and obligations substantially impose upon his time and professional schedule.”
Rocky said he would appear for a depo on November 16 but Relli declined. He said his ex-friend’s legal team then demanded Rocky appear on October 19 for a depo. The father-of-one said Relli threatened to ask for sanctions if he didn’t appear. Rocky is reportedly pleading with the court to order Relli to work with him on a depo date.
A judge has yet to rule.
