Ashanti Addresses Rumors That She’s Rekindled Her Romantic Relationship w/ Nelly: We’re In A Better Place

Ashanti and Nelly are working on their relationship, as friends. 

Earlier this month, footage of Ashanti grinding on Nelly, real name Cornell Iral Haynes Jr., while performing their 2008 collaboration “Body On Me” left fans in awe, with many claiming there’s still chemistry between the former couple.

Ashanti recently appeared as a special guest, alongside Morris Chestnut on Andy Cohen’s “Watch What Happens Live,” where she responded to fans wondering if she and Nelly will be following in Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s footsteps, who reconnected after two decades last year. The “Happy” singer said:

“Wow. Oh my gosh, I saw a lot of comments.”

The 42-year-old continued:

“I mean my reaction was ‘wow,’ you know? It was a lot of comments and a lot of people wanting that.”

The former Murder Inc. artist, who dated Nelly on and off for 11 years after they met in 2003, added:

“What I will say is we’re in a better place, you know? ‘Cause before it was like [displays signs of anger.] You know, we’re cool now.”

Admitting that she’s cordial with the rapper, she said:

“Yeah! We had some conversations, you know? So it’s cool.”

After being asked if she’d consider dating the 48-year-old again, the singer, who called it quits with Nelly in 2014, hesitated and said:

“I mean…”
