Gunna Reportedly Leaving Young Thug’s YSL Label Following Snitching Allegations, Rapper Will Allegedly Sign New Deal w/ Atlantic Records

Has Gunna found himself a new music home?

Some are speculating that Gunna, 29, is reportedly leaving YSL Records and will be signing a new deal with Atlantic Records. As you may already know, YSL Records is an Atlanta-based label that was founded in 2016 by Young Thug, born Jeffery Williams. It’s important to note that Gunna, born Sergio Kitchens, has not confirmed just yet that he’s jumping ship, however, if he does it may come as no surprise.

As previously reported, last year Gunna and fellow rapper Young Thug, 31, were among 28 members of the alleged criminal street gang YSL who were charged in a 56-count Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) indictment.

Gunna ultimately entered a negotiated plea, also known as an Alford plea, in which he pleaded guilty on one charge because it was in his best interest while maintaining his innocence on the same charge. He was sentenced to five years behind bars, with one year commuted to time served. The rapper’s remaining balance on his sentence was suspended, subject to probation conditions.

Following his release, Gunna has faced a lot of criticism as many people have accused him of snitching on Young Thug for freedom. However, Gunna – via his legal team – has denied those claims a few times. Most recently, earlier this week his attorney released another statement expressing, once again, that the rapper never “cooperated with law enforcement or prosecutors.” In part, the statement said,

“Gunna has never been interviewed by or cooperated with law enforcement or prosecutors in the RICO case.”

His attorney continued,

“Nor have his attorneys proffered information on his behalf. What was said at his Alford plea hearing was solely to resolve his own case. It cannot be used by the prosecution against Young Thug or any other defendant.”

Even with his lawyer’s latest statement, some think the rapper has decided to switch to a new label because of the snitching allegations. However, if the new label rumors are true, Gunna could simply be trying to distance himself from the ongoing drama surrounding YSL.

Young Thug, unlike Gunna, has yet to be freed and remains behind bars. It’s unclear when the trial for the rapper’s RICO case will officially take off. Earlier this week news broke that despite it being over a month and a half since jury selection started, not one juror has been selected. Reportedly, hundreds of potential jurors have requested hardship deferrals, which the judge has approved due to the possibility of the trial taking up to a year.
