Update: Ja Morant Suspended For 8 Games Without Pay For Live Stream Video Incident Where He Flashed A Gun

Update: (Mar. 15, 2023): Ja Morant continues to deal with the consequences of his actions.

According to reports, the NBA has decided to suspend the athlete for 8 games without pay after ruling that his flashing a gun at a gentlemen’s club — Shotgun Willies– in Denver, Colorado earlier this month was “conduct detrimental to the league.”

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement:

“Ja’s conduct was irresponsible, reckless and potentially very dangerous,”

He added,

“It also has serious consequences given his enormous following and influence, particularly among young fans who look up to him.”

The games he already missed will count toward the suspension. However, due to this latest update, Ja is slated to miss his sixth game when the Grizzlies play in Miami tonight (Mar. 15). After sitting out for two more games, he should be eligible to return to the court on Monday (Mar. 20) when Memphis plays Dallas.

Ja will reportedly forfeit about $669,000 in salary.

Original story: (Mar. 14, 2023): Ja Morant will be off of the court for a while! However, he’s doing what he can to fix the situation.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Memphis Grizzlies player won’t be returning to his team anytime soon. In the meantime, Ja Morant has entered a counseling program. The reporter took to Twitter and announced:

“Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant has entered a counseling program in Florida and there remains no timetable for his return to active play.”

Ja Morant, 23, recently landed himself in a bit of trouble that is taking some time to get out of.

As previously reported, after losing a game to the Denver Nuggets earlier this month, the point guard went to Shotgun Willies — a gentlemen’s club in Colorado — to have fun. While there, he appeared on IG live shirtless and flashed a gun. Following an investigation, the Glendale Colorado police decided not to charge Ja after finding no “probable cause.”

On Monday (Mar. 13) Memphis Grizzlies’ head coach Taylor Jenkins said Morant would have to go through a “process” in order to be cleared to play again. Taylor Jenkins said:

“There are a lot of internal dialogues going on and obviously there’s still things going on at the league level that we’re in communication with.”

Jenkins added:

“Ja’s fully engaged in this process and ready for whatever comes next after these 2 games.”

Hopefully, the team can stay afloat without their high-scoring player, who reportedly averaged  27.1 points per game.
