Oprah Winfrey, Rihanna, & Kim Kardashian Top Forbes ‘Richest Women Celebrities In America’ List + ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Creator Shonda Rhimes Makes First-Time Debut
It’s been a great year for women making money in Hollywood!
Forbes recently released its “15 Richest Women Celebrities In America” list, which includes a few recurring names such as Oprah Winfrey and Rihanna. The list also features some newcomers, such as “Grey’s Anatomy” creator Shonda Rhimes.
Unsurprisingly, topping the list at #1, with a net worth of $2.5 billion, is media mogul Oprah Winfrey. The 69-year-old OWN network founder reportedly added to her portfolio this year through real estate investments. According to reports, Winfrey purchased almost 900 acres of land in Maui, increasing her Hawaii investment properties from the 13 she already owned. Additionally, the TV personality reportedly owns several other properties in California and Wyoming.
In the realm of entertainment, Winfrey teamed up with famed director Steven Spielberg and Motown founder Quincy Jones to reimagine “The Color Purple” film. Winfrey starred in the 1985 adaptation of the book by Alice Walker, earning her first Oscar nomination. The revival movie is set to release on Christmas and stars Halle Bailey, Fantasia Barrino, Taraji P. Henson, and many more.
Despite caring for her firstborn son RZA and being pregnant with baby #2, superstar singer Rihanna made second on the list. With a net worth of $1.4 billion, the 35-year-old made history with her Super Bowl performance this year, having 121 million viewers tuned in. It was reportedly the most-watched halftime show in NFL history.
As we previously reported, the performance reportedly earned Rihanna $350,000 in royalties. Additionally, the success of her her skincare brand Fenty Beauty and clothing line Savage X Fenty continue to make up the majority of her income. Safe to say motherhood doesn’t seem to be slowing the “Diamonds” artist down too much.
Third on the list is reality TV star Kim Kardashian. The 42-year-old reportedly has a net worth of $1.2 billion with ventures in several big-money industries. Reportedly, the bulk of her money comes from her shape-wear turned full-blown apparel company SKIMS. Additionally, the mom of four has a private equity firm and is set to join the cast of the FX show American Horror Story, which premieres later this year.
An honorable mention on the list is songstress Taylor Swift, who made history with her Era’s tour which kicked off earlier this year. The 33-year-old has a reported net worth of $740 million. She reportedly sold over 2 million tickets the first day they went on sale – the most ever for an artist in a single day on Ticketmaster.
Behind her is reality TV star Kylie Jenner, 25, with a net worth of $680 million, followed by Madonna, 64, at $580 million and Beyoncé at $540 million. Like Swift, the 41-year-old “Formation” singer also kicked off a highly anticipated tour this year following her big moment at the Grammys. As previously reported, In March, Beyoncé became the most-winning Grammy Award winner of all time, with a total of 32 trophies to her name.
Rounding off the list is tennis star Serena Williams who raked in $290 million and television creator Shonda Rhimes. The writer/producer debuted for the first time on the list with a net worth of $250 million. After the success of her Netflix hit “Bridgerton,” the show quickly was green-lit for a second season and subsequent spin-off series.
Rhimes is also credited for bringing over $2 billion in revenue for ABC during her time creating “Grey’s Anatomy.” Altogether, this list of richest celebrity women has a combined net worth of around $10.8 billion. Not a bad time to be a celebrity woman!
