Nene Leakes Reveals Son Bryson Has Struggled w/Drug Addiction For Years, Has Been In Rehab Multiple Times + Lamar Odom Reached Out To Offer Help
The reality of drug addiction can be just as hard on family members as it is on its victims.
Former “RHOA” star Nene Leakes spoke about the matter during a recent interview with producer Carlos King, where she opened up about the related ongoing struggles of her eldest son.
As previously reported, 31-year-old Bryson Bryant, the first son of Nene Leakes, was arrested earlier this month on drug possession and loitering charges. The ex reality star reportedly was found with the deadly fentanyl drug in his vehicle, outside of a home where he didn’t know the residents. After posting bail he was detained by authorities again shortly after for giving a false name and address, using his brother Brentt Leakes identification and claiming to live in a home his mother reportedly sold years ago.
According to his famous mom, Bryant has been dealing with addiction for several years and had been in and out of rehab in attempts to curb the illness. Leakes explained during the interview:
“He needs rehabilitation, he needs a lot of counseling…he has an addiction, he’s been struggling with it for years. He’s been in rehab a couple of times and he still has come back out and relapsed,”

She continued:
“As a mom just to watch it, – my hands are tied…he’s an adult. He has three children…he has a wife. It’s not much that I can do. For people that have had children or family members that have been on drugs they know that they that have to be ready. They have to simply be ready,”
Leakes went on to share that she’s spent “so much money” trying to help her son deal with the issue, and has pushed him several times to enter rehab facilities. However, after receiving some counseling herself, the TV star says she came to the realization that Bryant has to want to change for himself. The actress also made clear that while she’ll never give up on helping her son, she’s mostly “numb” to the situation because it’s been happening for so long.
Further in the interview, King questioned if Leakes believes growing up on television aided in Bryant’s current struggles. In case you’re unfamiliar, Leakes starred on the hit Bravo series alongside her late husband Gregg Leakes and two sons during its premiere and rise back 2008.
Answering the question, she responded:
“I don’t think it helped, but I wouldn’t say it’s the sole cause…we started on television when Bryson was like in the 11th or 12th grade…they’re having to be in a light shined on them that they did not ask for…people are picking them apart because of the job that I chose to do…and so I feel for him in that way,”
Leakes went on to share that while she can’t fully relate to Bryant’s struggles, she has been offered help by someone who can. Former NBA star Lamar Odom allegedly reached out to the TV personality offering to help her son get help from the place he was able to get clean. Odom has been very open and candid with his struggles with addiction, which ultimately ended his marriage to reality TV star Khloe Kardashian.
The champion athlete has stated that after nearly losing his life to an overdose, he was determined to get and remain clean. Now, it seems he’s looking to pay his freedom forward, offering help to Bryant. The celebrity kid reportedly remains behind bars at this time and has requested a public defender to help him with his legal troubles.
We will continue to update as the situation moves forward.
