Update: Teyana Taylor’s Estranged Husband Iman Shumpert Denies Her Claims Of ‘Cruel Treatment’ In Recent Divorce Filing
Update: (Dec. 8, 2023): It seems like the divorce drama between Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert is just getting started.
As previously reported, last month divorce documents surfaced online of Teyana accusing her ex Iman of being an insecure narcissist who subjected her to “cruel treatment” throughout their 7 years of marriage. The divorce petition — which was initially filed in January under their initials — also claimed the former professional athlete was “extremely emotionally and mentally abusive towards her.”
However, Iman has a different take on what occurred between them and has filed a motion to have Teyana’s listing of “cruel treatment” as the reason for the divorce changed to “irretrievable broken bond.” Reportedly, Iman’s issue is with “cruel treatment” legally being defined as,
“the willful, persistent infliction of unnecessary suffering, whether in realization or apprehension, whether of mind or body, to such an extent as to render cohabitation dangerous and unendurable.”
The NBA champion allegedly claimed that Teyana has no proof that he ever made her feel unsafe at any point during their relationship.
A judge has yet to rule on the matter.

Original Story: (Nov. 23, 2023): Looks like Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert are officially headed toward divorce.
In recently discovered divorce documents, the singer detailed her many grievances with the marriage and slammed the ex-basketball star for his alleged narcissistic behavior.
In the documents, which were reportedly secretly filed by Teyana Taylor, 32, under the couple’s initials back in January, she accused her estranged husband of being increasingly jealous of her career. According to the “Rose In Harlem” singer, Iman Shumpert, 33, would often get upset when they attended events together and photographers would ask him to step out of photos putting the focus on her. Additionally, she claims that Shumpert’s insecurities were even more heightened when she announced their separation back in September. As we reported at the time, Taylor claimed the two were still “best friends” but just couldn’t work things out in terms of a relationship.
Taylor claims, however, that the reveal only worsened things between them. Reportedly, Shumpert began sending her negative texts with “manipulative language” about her stardom and would pick fights with her, as he allegedly did on her birthday, just to turn around an apologize.
The entertainer also claimed that following the separation, she realized that Shumpert showed “narcissistic” tendencies all throughout their 7 years of marriage. She claims that she began “dimming her light” and backing away from acting and singing gigs to avoid fighting, and says the athlete became “more and more” angry about her working, only to become upset with her for not working after giving birth to one of their two children.
Elsewhere in the docs, Taylor says the two briefly tried to reconcile. The report notes that shortly after she filed for divorce, she claims to have asked her lawyer to withdraw the document despite Shumpert
“being extremely emotionally and mentally abusive towards her.”
However, it became clear to the actress things wouldn’t work out between them because the former NBA star allegedly continued to be insecure about his worth as his basketball career began to “wind down”. Taylor also cited her former boo’s several cheating scandals in the documents, stating that she was often “humiliated” and “embarrassed” by them.
She reportedly also cited his DUI arrest, weed possession charge, and claimed Shumpert crashed her Roll Royce and fled the scene to avoid another DUI. Additionally, Taylor says the sports professional left their Georgia home back in October and hasn’t spent “significant” time with their children since. She’s reportedly seeking temporary and permanent primary physical custody, plus joint legal custody and child support.
While it doesn’t seem that she’s reacted to the divorce documents being leaked publicly, which reportedly only became unearthed because Shumpert used their full names in a recent court motion, Shumpert seemingly has. In a caption-less post, the athlete simply uploaded a meme of podcaster Joe Budden sitting in a pool of water staring at his phone.
