Clay Gravesande’s Mother Checks His Father In ‘Love Is Blind’ Finale & The Internet Is Here For It: ‘A Full Course Of Reality Checks With A Side Of Unbothered’

Generational trauma is real, and ‘Love Is Blind’ star, Clay Gravesande’s, mother didn’t hesitate to let that be known.

As you may know, season 6 of the hit Netflix series has been quite a rollercoaster for contestants Clay Gravesande and Amber Desiree (AD).

Sadly, Clay Gravesande’s childhood baggage from witnessing his father’s infidelity against his mother kept him from saying “I Do” when the pair made it to the altar.

Although the 6x NCAA All-American had been candid with Amber Desiree about the impact of the demise of his parents’ almost 24-year marriage, she stood overwhelmed with heartbreak when Gravesande decided against tying the knot.

He shockingly revealed to the real estate broker in the finale episode,

“This has been the best process. AD, I love you. I don’t think it’s responsible for me to say ‘I do.’ But I want you to know that I’m rocking with you. I just don’t think it’s responsible for me to say ‘I do,’ at this point, when I still need work.”

He continued,

I still need to get to the point where I’m a hundred percent in. And I’m not gon’ have you over here thinking that this not gon’ work. I’ma put the work in for you, and we’ll go through this together. I don’t care what nobody says. I know fully I’m not ready for marriage, and you deserve the best.”

Following Amber Desiree’s walk-off with her mother, bridal party and a regroup with the groom, Gravesande’s mother, Margarita, had a few words for his father, Trevor.

She explained to him how his poor choices now affect their son in his romantic life as an adult. Margarita told Trevor, recalling his shortcomings in their relationship:

“Part of what he is struggling with… he struggles with a marriage.”

She elaborated,

“‘Is this sacred?’ ‘Do you honor?’ He struggles with that. And all of those emotions and twisted feelings, he took that to the altar. And a lot of that stems from things that you have to explain and then apologize Don’t make excuses. Just apologize, so that closure can be had. But the marriage thing, the commitment, he struggles with that. He’s like, ‘I know you stayed, Mom, but there’s things that I saw that I should not have saw.'”

During the season, Gravesande opened up to AD about his father’s infidelity when he was a child, including times when his dad would take him along to cheat on his mother. He told AD that he struggled with the concern he’d follow suit, should he say “I do.”

Margarita furthered:

“Kids, when they grow up and they see things, it’s like, you know, ‘Is marriage for real?’ or ‘Is marriage something that you get into, and you lie, and you deceive?’ And he took a lot of that to the altar with his decision.”

She concluded by setting the record straight with Trevor about his failure to be a good husband. She added,

“You met me, but you wasn’t good to me.”
