Donald Trump Selects Ohio Senator J.D. Vance As His 2024 Republican Running Mate
Donald Trump wants Ohio Senator J.D. Vance as Vice President on the Republican White House ticket.
According to reports, former U.S. President and GOP nominee Donald Trump, 78, picked J.D. Vance as his 2024 running mate. The 39-year-old politician became a finalist out of Donald Trump’s vice presidential shortlist of potential candidates.
On the first day of the Republican National Convention, Trump posted the news on his social media platform, Truth Social. In part, he wrote,
“After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance…”
Although the Ohio Republican has criticized Trump over the years, calling his policies “immoral to absurd” and both “America’s Hitler” and an “idiot,” it appears he has adopted similar values to the businessman.
While running for Senate in 2022, Trump reportedly said at a pro-Vance rally,
“He’s a guy that said some bad sh*t about me. But I have to do what I have to do [by endorsing him for Senate]. We have to pick somebody that can win.”
Trump’s VP selection comes just two days after he survived an assassination attempt at his campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13. The rally was cut short after now-deceased gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania opened gunfire toward the stage.
Despite Trump being rushed off the stage with blood coming from his ear, he was deemed “fine” after medical evaluation. However, one rally attendee, Corey Comperatore, was fatally shot, and two others were critically injured.
