Black Men Raise $1.3 Million For Kamala Harris In 4 Hours As Van Jones Declares They Are Determined To ‘Protect’ Her: ‘We Won’t Sit This Out’

Update #2 (July 24, 2024): Black men are standing by Kamala Harris.

As the support for the presidential hopeful continues, over 53,000 Black men held a call via Win With Black Men and raised $1.3 million for four hours for her booming campaign last night (Tuesday, July 23). Kamala Harris’ campaign hasn’t confirmed the numbers. This comes just days after 40,000 women hopped on the Win With Black Women call and raised over $1 million.

And it looks like it’s just the beginning. Van Jones appeared on CNN and made it clear Black men are ready to protect Kamala Harris at all costs.

“I was on a call with 20,000 Black men. The word ‘protect’ came up about a thousand times…’protect this sister, we;re gonna protect her. Protect her.”

He continued,

“You’re about to see something you haven’t seen before. People messed around with Hillary Clinton, said a bunch of mean stuff to her, Black men sat that out. We won’t sit this out. I don’t think the Republican Party understands that all the work that they did trying to get us over there, two more days of this? It’s gonna be a problem.”

He shared the clip on Instagram and reiterated in the caption,

“I said what I said.

Update: (July 22, 2024): The public isn’t playing about Kamala Harris!

Earlier today (July 22) reports broke that supporters of the new presidential hopeful raised nearly $50 million for her campaign after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race on Sunday (July 21).

Hours later, that amount has already increased, now sitting at $81 million, according to reports.

Kamala Harris’ campaign shared that the sum “reflects money raised across the campaign, Democratic National Committee, and joint fundraising committees,” and includes 888,000 grassroots donors.

Original Story: (July 22, 2024): In a surprising turn of events, supporters of Vice President Kamala Harris are showing up in large numbers and breaking donation records.

On Sunday, July 21, shortly after President Joe Biden withdrew his candidacy from the 2024 presidential election, endorsements began rolling in for Vice President Kamala Harris, followed by a massive surge in fundraising.

According to ActBlue, a fundraising platform, grassroots supporters raised nearly $50 million just hours after Vice President Kamala Harris launched her campaign. This marks the largest fundraising day in the 2024 election cycle so far.

Rounding out the support for the VP’s presidential bid, over 44,000 Black women across the US joined a Zoom call on Sunday night to show their support for Harris. Win With Black Women, the group behind the call, reported raising $1.5 million for the campaign in just three hours.

Dr. Wendy Osefo, star of The Real Housewives of Potomac, was one of the women on the call. She recently posted a picture of herself with Vice President Kamala Harris on Instagram and proudly shared the fundraising figures.

The positive news for the Democrats comes after Joe Biden decided to drop out of the race. In a letter to the American people, he revealed that although he had intended to seek reelection, he decided not to in the best interest of the Democratic Party:

“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”

Joe Biden’s letter follows mounting concerns about his ability to secure a win in November, especially after his less-than-stellar debate performance against former President Donald Trump last month.

After withdrawing from the race, President Biden quickly endorsed Harris for President, generating significant excitement within the Democratic base and securing nearly $50 million in donations in under 24 hours.

President Biden’s departure allows his delegates to vote for any candidate of their choice. With Biden’s backing, Harris, the only declared candidate so far, is working to quickly secure endorsements from a majority of these delegates.
