‘Catfish’ Frontman Nev Schulman Speaks Out Following Severe Bike Accident: ‘It’s A Long Road To Recovery’

One MTV star is lucky to be alive.

On August 5, Nev Schulman, co-host of MTV’s popular reality series Catfish, was hit by a truck while riding his bike to pick up his son from school. The impact was so intense that it left the 39-year-old with several injuries, including a broken neck. Days after the incident, Nev Schulman shared an Instagram post detailing the aftermath of what unfortunately occurred and said,

“I broke my neck. C5 and C6 to be exact. Stable fractures. I’m not paralyzed. My hands were a question mark there for a minute but the human body is incredible and so are HUMANS. …It’s hard to feel sorry for myself when I hear from the doctors about how many people with similar injuries will never walk again.”

In a newly released interview with TMZ, Nev Schulman gave an update on his “long road to recovery.”

“It is a real lesson in patience and humility. Neck injuries, spine injuries are no joke.”

According to Nev, the helmet he was wearing during the accident saved a horrible wreck from being even more tragic. Unfortunately, even with the extra measure of protection, an MRI revealed that the TV personality had spinal damage. Due to the severity of his injuries, Nev was transferred to Stony Brook University Hospital for surgery and care.

As he became emotional, Nev continued,

“All the nurses and doctors who saw me those first few days post-surgery were so surprised that I was able to move and sit up. …They all said that it was very unusual to see a patient walking, especially after any kind of spinal injury like this. It hit me very quickly how lucky I was, considering what could have been.”

Nev also noted that he believes the accident could have been avoided had there been a bike lane in the area where he was hit by the truck. Fans, friends, and loved ones have flooded his IG comment section with well wishes.
