Universal Shuts Down ‘Wicked’ Pay Disparity Rumors, Says Ariana Grande & Cynthia Erivo Were Paid Equally For The Film
There’s no truth to the pay disparity allegations surrounding “Wicked.”
Over the weekend rumors surfaced that there was a huge pay difference between “Wicked” stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. It was alleged that Ariana earned $15 million to play Glinda, while Cynthia earned only $1 million to portray Elphaba.
Well, according to Universal Pictures, that’s all a lie. Universal didn’t provide insight into how much the leading ladies actually received, but the production company did confirm they were paid the same amount.
A spokesperson for Universal said in a statement,
“Reports of pay disparity between Cynthia and Ariana are completely false and based on internet fodder. The women received equal pay for their work on ‘Wicked.’”
Good to see there was no truth to those concerning rumors!
