Fulton County D.A. Fani Willis Disqualified From Trump’s Election Interference Case, Indictment Still Stands
Fani Willis has been disqualified from overseeing the criminal election interference case involving President-elect Donald Trump.
On Thursday (Dec. 19), a Georgia appeals court ruled that the Fulton County District Attorney must step down from the case. The decision overturned a previous ruling by a Fulton County trial judge that allowed Willis to remain in charge, despite objections from Trump’s attorneys. They argued that her romantic relationship with the top prosecutor, whom she had appointed, presented a conflict of interest.

The Court of Appeals stated that the remedy proposed by the trial judge, which would have allowed Willis to continue if the prosecutor withdrew, was improper. However, the court did uphold the indictment against Trump and the other defendants, who face charges related to their attempts to overturn Trump’s 2020 election loss in Georgia to President Joe Biden.
