Trump Administration Facing High-Stakes Contempt Investigation For Deporting Over 200 Venezuelan Migrants To Notorious El Salvador Prison
A federal judge is not playing with the Trump administration.
Judge James Boasberg has made it clear he’s not afraid to hold the administration in contempt of court, for allegedly ignoring a court order to stop deportation flights carrying over 200 people to El Salvador last month.
Boasberg wrote:
“The Court does not reach such conclusion lightly or hastily; indeed, it has given Defendants ample opportunity to rectify or explain their actions. None of their responses has been satisfactory.”
Trump’s team reportedly invoked a 227-year-old wartime law—the 1798 Alien Enemies Act—to justify the deportations. Communications Director Steven Cheung responded to Judge Boasberg’s warning, stating:
“We plan to seek immediate appellate relief… The President is 100% committed to ensuring that terrorists and criminal illegal migrants are no longer a threat to Americans and their communities across the country.”

Despite the Supreme Court later siding with Trump on the law’s use, Boasberg made it clear that it doesn’t excuse what went down before that ruling.
He’s now demanding an explanation from the administration by April 23, or he might recommend prosecutions for individuals who ignored the stop order. Trump, of course, jumped on TruthSocial, calling Boasberg a “troublemaker and agitator” and pushing for his impeachment.
Reports note that El Salvador agreed to accept the deportees in exchange for $6 million. Trump also recently met with President Nayib Bukele and said he’s interested in sending more flights their way.
