Michelle Obama Says Singer Bruce Springsteen & His Wife Patti Have Been ‘Couple Mentors’ For Her & Barack

Michelle Obama is opening up about one set of “mentors” she and husband Barack have looked up to throughout their 32-year marriage.

While chatting with family friend and music legend Bruce Springsteen on her IMO Podcast, the former First Lady discussed marriage, parenting, and how Bruce and his wife, Patti Scialfa, whom he just celebrated 34 years of marriage with, have worked to avoid passing on trauma to their children.

Michelle praised the couple’s ability to handle the challenges of maintaining a relationship while parenting with grace, admitting that she and Barack have looked to them for inspiration in their own journey. She said:

“I marvel at you and Patti and the work that you all have done… You and Patti have been [a] couple [of] mentors for me and Barack for quite some time.”

The compliment seemed to catch Springsteen off guard, who responded with a surprised, “Woah, alright.” Michelle continued:

“Watching you guys do the work, getting advice on how to keep those lines of communication open.” She added that Bruce and Patti are “two powerhouses in your own right” and further commended them on successfully “merging those lives together.”

While the conversation eventually shifted to answering a fan question about mending father-daughter relationships, it’s clear that Michelle and Barack hold Bruce and Patti in very high regard when it comes to making a marriage work!
