Michelle Obama Urges Mom To Raise Sons The Way They Do Their Daughters: ‘Teach Him How To Communicate…& Care About Something Other Than Himself’
Michelle Obama is sharing a powerful message about the role mothers play in raising their sons.
During a recent episode of her IMO podcast, Michelle spoke with her brother and co-host Craig Robinson, along with guest Angie Martinez, where she emphasized that the mother-son relationship should go beyond love and nurturing. She urged fellow moms to also teach their sons the fundamentals of life, saying:
“People say mothers… raise their girls and love their sons…I say love your son, but raise him too.”
She added: “Raise him to be as strong as you know he’ll have to be.”
Michelle went on to stress that young men should be taught how to handle police interactions, communicate effectively, and be good listeners. She also spoke to the importance of raising boys to be compassionate humans and engaged citizens, people who “care about something outside of himself.” In doing so, Michelle says men will grow to have more clarity when making important choices about their lives.
