Ozempic Prices Slashed From $1,000 To $499 For Uninsured Americans As Manufacturer Responds To Lawsuits That Weight Loss Drug Caused Harm

Ozempic Prices Slashed From $1,000 To $499 For Uninsured Americans As Manufacturer Responds To Lawsuits That Weight Loss Drug Caused Harm
Ozempic just got a lot more affordable for uninsured Americans.
Manufacturer Novo Nordisk announced it is slashing the price of the diabetes and weight loss drug from nearly $1,000 to $499 a month.
The lower price is available through the company’s NovoCare Pharmacy, which ships medications directly to patients and bypasses insurance companies.
The move follows mounting pressure from lawmakers criticizing U.S. drug prices compared to international rates. Ozempic, along with other GLP-1 medications like Wegovy and Eli Lilly’s Zepbound, has been central to that debate.
Novo Nordisk also dropped the price of Wegovy to $499 earlier this year. Eli Lilly responded by cutting prices for Zepbound, its competing drug in the same class.
While the price cut could ease the financial burden for many, critics question the timing. Ozempic and Zepbound are facing lawsuits, claiming the injections caused a wave of dangerous side effects, including serious stomach issues.
