Don Lemon Says He Could Run U.S. “A Lot Better” Than Trump – Admits He’s Thought About Presidency

Don Lemon is opening up about the possibility of one day stepping into politics — and he says the idea of a presidential run has definitely crossed his mind.

During the March 29 episode of Pod Save America, the former CNN anchor discussed his potential political future with guest host Alex Wagner, admitting that while he does not currently have an active aspiration to become president, he has absolutely thought about it. “Do I ever think about it? Yes,” Lemon said, adding that it “could happen if the right opportunity presented itself.”

Lemon went even further, saying he believes he has what it takes to lead the country. “I think I could be president of the United States,” he said, before adding the line sure to spark headlines: “I do think that I could run this country a lot better than Donald Trump.”

He also pushed back on the idea that thinking about public office should be seen as unrealistic, pointing to Barack Obama’s rise as an example of why unconventional paths to the presidency should not be dismissed.

Still, Lemon acknowledged that he believes the path would be harder for him because of race, saying, “I’m not a white man and the rules are different for me.” He added that the same unequal standards also apply to women in politics, specifically naming Hillary Clinton, Nikki Haley, Kamala Harris and Alex Wagner.

While Lemon stopped short of declaring any actual plans to run, his candid remarks make clear that the possibility is something he has seriously considered — especially if the “right opportunity” ever presents itself.
