Gabrielle Union Set To Executive Produce, Potentially Star In New HBO Max Legal Drama
Gabrielle Union may be heading back to television in a major way.
The actress and producer is set to executive produce Debbie, a new legal drama currently in development at HBO Max. Union is also in talks to star in the series, which would place her at the center of the project both on-screen and behind the scenes.
According to reports, the series follows Debbie Powell, a once-feared Atlanta attorney whose very public downfall forces her to rebuild her life and career as a public defender. The character reportedly uses the same determination, connections and legal skills that once made her one of the city’s most formidable lawyers to fight for people who have been overlooked by the justice system.
Debbie is being written and executive produced by Bradley Bredeweg, co-creator of The Fosters, alongside Matthew Thomas. Union will executive produce through her production company, I’ll Have Another Productions.
The project is described as an elevated legal procedural that explores reinvention, survival and the pursuit of justice. HBO Max has reportedly been expanding its lineup of procedural dramas, with Debbie joining several projects currently in development.
