Magic Johnson has taken to Twitter, stating that he’s glad that Nike has pulled their contract from Manny Pacquiao. The retired NBA player, who has an openly gay son (E.J. Johnson), tweeted the following:
I applaud Nike for terminating Manny Pacquiao’s contract after his derogatory statements that gay people are worse than animals.

As previously reported, Pacquiao has come under fire for remarks that were made to a Filipino television station earlier this week. He stated:
Have you seen any animal having male-to-male or female-to-female relations? If you have male-to-male or female-to-female [relationships], then people are worse than animals.
Nike said in a statement,
We find Manny Pacquiao’s comments abhorrent. Nike strongly opposes discrimination of any kind and has a long history of supporting and standing up for the rights of the LGBT community.
Pacquiao apologized on Twitter.
I’m sorry for hurting people by comparing homosexuals to animals. Please forgive me for those I’ve hurt. God Bless! pic.twitter.com/bqjRcWqp8R
