Beyonce Accused of Slandering “Feyonce” Owners In Lawsuit
theJasmineBRAND.com exclusively reports, Beyonce is being accused of slandering her own fans – who created a website selling Feyonce merchandise – and they are demanding her lawsuit accusing them of illegally profiting off her name be thrown out of court.
Here’s the latest: On May 11th, Andre Maurice and Leana Lopez, the people behind Feyonce, responded to the singer’s attempt to obtain a default judgement against them.
They explain they have attempted to find counsel to represent them but have been unsuccessful due to the high rates. The duo say they have shut down their Feyonce website and no longer hawk merchandise that the pop star believes infringes on her marks.
Further, they accuse Beyonce of slandering their names to encourage the products to be removed which caused their funds to decrease.
The defendants say Beyonce has not provided sufficient evidence to prove they acted intentionally in committing wrongful infringing acts. Both say they never used the singers likeness or image and say their products were only to celebrate engagement and marriage, arguing their Feyonce when pronounced is similar to finance (a man or women who is engaged to be married). They are demanding the case be dismissed & Beyonce not be paid.
Here’s the backstory: Last year, the singer sued the Texas-based company, Feyonce, accusing them of illegally profiting off her name and trademark and confusing her fans into thinking she endorsed their products.
The singer explained that one of her biggest hits was “Single Ladies” & was certified quadruple-platinum with more than 5 million downloads and is one of the best-selling singles of all time.
Beyonce said the company was capitalizing on the notoriety of her song by hawking merchandise online with such lyrics as “Put a Ring on it” and even selling items bearing the Feyonce mark.
Like most singers, Beyonce owns the copyrights to her songs and likeness and sells her own merchandise and products to her millions of fans, which translates into millions of dollars in sales, which take a hit when companies like Feyonce come along.
The pop star invested a considerably amount of time and money into creating her brand and she demanded Feyonce be hit with an injunction ordering them to cease selling their products and all the profits they made from infringing on her marks.
Back in October, the singer filed docs seeking a default judgement against the defendants for them failing to show up to court despite being served with the legal docs.
She proposes the judge grant her a permanent injunction prohibiting them from never again selling any product that relates to her lyrics. The singer also sought the domain feyonceshop.com be transferred to her along with $35k to cover her legal bills.
