Tinashe Says Colorism Comments Taken Out Of Context
Tinashe is responding to backlash over comments that she made in a recent interview. In the interview, Tinashe discussed being bi-racial and was quoted as saying,
There’s colorism involved in the black community, which is very apparent, It’s about trying to find a balance where I’m a mixed woman, and sometimes I feel like I don’t fully fit into the black community; they don’t fully accept me, even though I see myself as a black woman. That disconnect is confusing sometimes. I am what I am.
However, Tinashe says when she was discussing colorism, it was taken out of context. See her explanation below.

How can something be taken out of context if you were quoted ?
I don’t think she meant it the way it came off. HOWEVER, all the stuff she talked about affects all black women in the industry to some degree. This music biz thing is viciously competitive, and you need people behind you that REALLY believe in you. It is clear, that her label doesn’t see it for her. She has a nice social media following, but they are more interested in looking at her than buying her music.
Not to make light of her feelings, because it’s all about respect for one another. I just think that the majority of her issues originated within her. The way she worded her sentence, stating “they (black people) don’t accept me but I consider myself a black woman”. If you’re black, you’re apart of the group automatically. We can’t deny or approve you. You were born into the clique so to speak. I just think she doesn’t receive as much validation as she needs but she has to work that out within her self. Black people, we’re a complicated bunch lol. Her being “half white” adds another complexity to her black experience.
Maybe people just don’t like her music. ?????
