Michelle Obama can add “best selling author” to her growing list of accomplishments, as the first week’s numbers have been announced for her memoir, “Becoming.” The former First Lady sold more than 1.4 million copies in print and digital formats within the U.S. and Canada, Crown Publishing confirmed Thanksgiving Eve (Nov. 21, 2018). “Becoming” is being branded as one of the biggest book debuts in 2018. The book’s demand in retail has been so thirsty, the publisher printed at least 3 million hardcover copies for North America, while overseas, the book is the No. 1 adult nonfiction title in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Holland, Spain, Denmark and Finland, according to reports.
The memoir also surpasses former first ladies. In 2003, Hillary Clinton’s “Living History” only pulled around 600,000 copies within it’s first week release. While in 2010, Laura Bush pulled in around 150,000 copies her first week.
