Bryan Michael Cox Says Jay-Z Told Jermaine Dupri NOT To Take Similar NFL Deal
Jay-Z’s deal with the NFL is still ruffling feathers. And now, producer Bryan Michael Cox has revealed even more information. As previously reported, Jay-Z signed a partnership with the NFL in a social justice initiative last week. Jay-Z is now the live music entertainment strategist, and will reportedly make decisions for major performances like the Super Bowl halftime show.
Interestingly enough, Cox said Jermaine Dupri was offered a similar deal, and Jay-Z told him not to take it.
He spoke on Jay-Z’s union with the NFL and said,
“I’m not saying that it can’t turn into some good s***. We’re also talking about a guy who single-handedly picked up the phone and called Jermaine to tell him not to do it […] When we all had that meeting with the NFL, all that s*** was part of the same s***.”
“I’m not gonna condemn it and be like, ‘That s*** [is] wack. For me, I want to look at it intelligently because I know a lot of what was happening before and how we were engaged last year as a community […] At the end of the day, [Dupri] took a beating for doing the same s***. And I guarantee you they didn’t pay him as much as they’re about to pay [JAY].”
His comment comes after Dupri served as the producer for a 10-day lineup of free concerts for the Super Bowl, held in Dupri’s hometown Atlanta, earlier this year.
While Dupri has stayed quiet about it, radio personality Funk Flex said he spoke with him and confirmed Cox was telling the truth.

Jay-Z has also responded to the criticism he’s received because of his deal.
Meanwhile, the NFL is still facing backlash. The protests against the league started in 2016 when then NFL star Colin Kaepernick kneeled during the national anthem to send a message against police brutality in the African-American community. Three years later, he still has yet to land another position with the NFL.
