Prince’s Estate Drops Unreleased Acoustic Track [LISTEN]
It’s been more than three years since Prince passed, but his purple rain just won’t let up.
The late singer’s estate has released an unheard acoustic demo for his “I Feel For You” song.
Listen to it below!
It was released to salute the 40th anniversary of Prince’s self-titled sophomore album on Thursday (Oct. 17). It’s now available on streaming platforms and a limited 7-inch vinyl that features the new version of the song on one side, and the original recording on the other.
The recording dates back to the winter of 1978-79, when Prince was getting ready for his highly-anticipated debut at the Capri Theater in North Minneapolis.
His estate said in a statement,
“The special, stripped-down demo recording captures a 20-year-old Prince in a raw, intimate moment, and begins with the sound of the artist pressing the record button on a cassette tape recorder and picking up the acoustic guitar.”
The original version of the song was a hit, to say the least. It peaked at the top 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100 charts in 1984 after Chaka Khan covered it for her own album in 1984. Chaka’s cover earned her two Grammys, including Best R&B song where Prince was credited as a songwriter.
